Sniper by AlexJJessup Sniper by AlexJJessup
Info in image! Oh, posting more info on the rifle separately. It's basically an M82, I mostly just changed the aesthetics of it a bit. Scope is TrackingPoint, if you don't know what that is, check it out. Super cool, and I suspect the military will be using them soon for a number of reasons.

Awesome design! I really like the futuristic style you have but also incorporate some old themes as well: like the ghili suit. Nice work dude!

Really awesome. Are the legs a photo btw? I would just LOVE a step-by-step or a short tutorial made by you. Maybe a lot to ask for, but you know ... Just if you ever get the time! :)

For the pose, yes. I paint over the photo to put the camo pattern, lighting, other equipment etc on there. Most of us don't want to hassle with getting poses right from memory; it's a lot easier to start with a photo and work off it from there!
I may make a tutorial down the road, I'll be sure to advertise it here if I do! :)
Glad you like my work!

Ah, interesting process. Do you use your own photos or do you take the photos from some reference website?

Both, though when using anything from the internet you're best off painting over/changing as much as possible.

By adaptive camo you mean...like...MultiCam or like another camo that would adapt to environments ?

No, Adaptive Camo is a fictional name I was using for a semi-cloaking clothing.

Cool image but as pointed out The Trigger finger. I would also point to weight vs posture. Unless he's wearing a Powered Exoskeleton He is not going to hold that pose for long.  That rifle is over 30 pounds unloaded.

"I suspect the military will be using them soon for a number of reasons."
US Army is testing it out as we speak on there XM2010 Sniper Rifle.

This is unbelievable. Your job is absolutely perfect. I love the way you place the annotations. And as you color and texturized, different materials.

1. His finger if anything is hovering over the trigger.
2. Snipers have worn face masks on many operations. 3. IF ANYTHING-that mask has built in optics; so it cuts half the job down. 4. It's a drawing not an operator; chill out dude.

Son clearly you know nothing of a sniper. A sniper with a finger off the trigger is worthless. Face mask? Clearly again you know nothing of snipers and camouflage/veils/masks. Should educate yourself before writing such ignorant comments.

just a little something, when you say ADTV camo is not needed, i thought instead it should be not feasible due to the distance from and form of recharging point. so the ghillie having no need for power was the way to go

TrackingPoint's sight is impractical, as the battlefield becomes more High-tech and networked, the sniper will have to be more low-tech and less networked, otherwise their own gear will reveal their position. Just like that radio equipment.
As for the ghillie (which is not needed at the ranges AMRs are used by one side of the fight, a handmade configuration is what the Marines go to for concealment, the material is normally burlap, the "accessories" are inserted by hand, you can't mass-produce a fool-proof ghillie.  And it should be lighter all-around, the more clips and buckles and loose mag pouches, the more noise made when moving. And a better  weapon would be something along the lines of a GM-6 Lynx, the barrel on that rifle can be pushed into the receiver, cutting it's length by roughly 25%…

I assumed you were going for "practi-cool" so I figured I would deliver an honest criticism leaning in that direction. Sorry if I was too harsh.

Not at all man, I love hearing researched/knowledgable feedback. Trackingpoint itself doesn't need to be networked, that was just something I put in as a gameplay mechanic to allow the recon/dmr to work with this guy. If you look at the legs, I've left some of the net showing, along with the weave in places to show how the ghillie is made. In real life, I would never leave exposed net where I'd be crawling, just opted for it here for looks.

Thanks for the feedback man! I take all of it into account in future designs. It's good to know what breaks the believability of it for people, cool or not.

I realize you may not have done this in order to showcase the rifle (which is just fine), otherwise I would say that you might want to consider adding some type of foliage/ghillie to the rifle. Typically when snipers use ghillie suits they camouflage their weapons too. Wouldn't want that snappy rifle to get him spotted ;)

You're spot on regarding why I didn't do it haha.  But in any production paintings I do with this design in it, I'll have his rifle concealed as well! :)

its only 20 to 25 pounds with a full load off ammo and by the time you have to carry it up a mountain you would be ready for it.  But it is very tiring.
