AK337 by AlexJJessup AK337 by AlexJJessup
Tried to do a more modern AK that still says "bad guy." Didn't really want to go the "tactical AK" route, since that's really common and easy (though awesome). Mostly used existing parts, then just spent time changing to fit together the way I wanted, and also look a bit more custom. Top two stocks are my design to match the look of the rest of the gun, bottom one ran out of time so it's just an M249 stock.

Hope you like it!

*Note* - Firearm enthusiasts, my guns are designed with an inclination of form > function, more like what you would see in a modern-day FPS. I take some liberties at points, but I try to keep it as real as possible. Feel free to point out any major errors I have made!

The drum is going to jam in like five seconds of firing.

Get casket mags.

No, I work for Sledgehammer Games. My AK isn't all that original looking tbh, so it doesn't surprise me that there are other similar designs.

I see that these use NATO rounds. Does that mean that the US and its allies have FINALLY adopted the AK platform? (at least in this future)

The mags are the wrong size, all of them look completely different but seem to fire the same round.

I like the re-use of the lower recievers.  I assume that's what makes them cheaper to make and repair

Hmm... Looks pretty good! But as you asked for flaws, here's one: you wrote it uses x51 NATO cartridges, but the magasin has got the thickness of the original x39 ammo. It wouldn't exactly fit.

Awesome! Clap

I've always just loved the loveable and classic style of ak variant rifles. This would be amazing to see in real life, sadly it may never happen. All of these variants are awesome, especially the sniper variant and assault rifle variant. The mg variant definitely looks really portable and lightweight, and that's always good in a combat scenario, where you don't want to get weighed down too much.  Nod

An AK with 7.62 NATO rounds ? AK gas system is going to be really up to it´s limits...if you kept the 7.62X39 or the 5.45X39 would have been ok.

The Magazine on the AK337 is the wronge scale for a 7.62x51mm Nato. the Sniper variant has the right size.

A sligly side note - the ak74 uses 5,45 x 39. It could be a good alternative for this one.

Sorry to point this out! But surely the sniper variant would be an SVK-337; and the SSV would Be an RPK-337.

If Russian, yes they would! In this fiction, it's a US based manufacture making their own version of the AK.

That would be unique and cool if the USA did that. They can boast to the Russians that we can make AK's too and they're better than yours in every way. lol

Great work love the design  but 7.62x51 NATO isn't normally used by AKs, rounds typically used are 5.45x39 or 7.62x39. If you ever make another AK design in the future you should look into the AK74M, AK-100 series , AEK971 , AN94, and AK12.

It's a fictional setting, where this was developed and chambered with 7.62x51 NATO in mind. I know that currently that's not the case.

I think the sniper variant should have a more reinforced receiver to reduce flexing of the metal and increase accuracy the same way it is done on the PSL.

I don't think that 7.62mm NATO uses a curve in it's magazines. But you've made it looks quite modern, although it still feels a little too 'tactical' for the Avtomat Kalashnikova.

You've said that you pref form over function, so you've done that well.

Meh, the AK-12 has better form and function, and there's no way the 7.62x51mm will fit in that mag, and I have series doubts about the 7.62x39mm as well, due to the small magazine taper.

That said, the gun does look absolutely gorgeous.

Using 7.62 instead of 5.45? How about no...

It looks as if it was in 5.45mm. The true look of the AK is the one one in 7.62mm: the higher lower receiver which makes it a bit bulkier, yet not the same way as SCAR rifle. Beside, great work, nice proportions, good finish. Maybe you should experiment with pulling the front sight backwards and giving it a bit heavier barrel. The true AK is somehow squarry, not prolonged. I also think that there is a tiny error when it comes to the fire selector: when closed, that's in the upper position, it closes the opening in the upper half of the reciever, both securing the weapon and acting as dust cover. Maybe it' s just me, but it seems that the way that it's drawn it wouldn't work. Try to rotate it around the bolt that holds it and se if it matches.

There's a groove in the elevated rail, you can see that the rail is inline with the front sight. :)
